Too much belly fat can lead to heart problems, type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance and some cancers. If you have too much belly fat, it’s so important to do something about it. But lose fat in that area is difficult. Here are ten reasons why it is so difficult.
A flat stomach is not only beautiful, but also healthier. Have you not been able to get off your belly fat with diet and exercise? There are still numerous other factors that may play a role.

1. Age
As you get older, your body changes. Your metabolism also changes. As age progresses, you need fewer calories to keep the body functioning normally. When women arrive at menopause phase it is often felt in the abdomen. Through all the changes of hormones it is usually more difficult, although not impossible, to lose weight.

2. Wrong exercises
Do you do your crunches regularly till failure? Stop it! You can do much better by training the entire core, spine, pelvis and abdominal muscles. Through exercises for your core (for example planking) you use more muscles and burn more calories.

3. Processed foods
If you want to get rid of your belly fat, you should avoid processed foods. Take for example no cake, candy, chips, fries and desserts. But take fresh fruit, vegetables, nuts and whole grain products.

4. Bad fats
The human body can not function without fats. But there are good and bad types of fats. Eat as little as possible saturated fats. Unsaturated fats is what your bod needs. All fish contain unsaturated fats. Oily fish such as mackerel, salmon and eel contain most unsaturated fatty acids. Also, olive oil and avocados are a source of unsaturated fat. Healthy fats can also lead to weight gain, so take it in moderation.

5. Stress
Do you suffer from stress and therefore eat more? Logical reason that you do not lose and possibly even gaining weight. That is not the only explanation. When you are in stress mode your body more makes more of the hormone cortisol. This hormone increases the amount of fat in the body and increases the fat cells.

6. Too little sleep
Several studies have shown that lack of sleep or irregular sleep patterns increase the risk of obesity. Poor sleep also increases the risk of type 2 diabetes.

7. Not enough food
Besides lack of sleep, not enough food is also not good if you want to lose weight. If you’re suddenly going to eat too little, your body goes into “power save mode”. In the short term you will lose weight, but if you just go eat afterwards you’ll gain immediately. The well-known yo-yo effect. Much better to eat differently. As already mentioned: fruit, vegetables and whole grain products.

8. Not exercise hard enough
Are you spending hours in the gym and not seeing results? It is possible that your workout are not intense enough. To burn enough calories and fat you need intensive training.

9. Apple Figure
Beautiful slim legs, but a belly? Then you have probably an apple figure. This is genetically determined and so it is harder to fight, but it’s not impossible.

10. Motivation is missing
You will not achieve a flat stomach in a few weeks. And once you have a flat stomach? Then you will continue to have to work to maintain a flat stomach. In short, weekly training, pay attention to your diet and make sure you stay motivated. If you lack motivation, it will certainly be a goal that you will never achieve.
